Dr Stefan Tuca is a consultant general surgeon specialised in bariatric surgery and advanced laparoscopy. Dr Tuca is based in Bucharest, Romania and works in some of the best and largest privat hospitals in the country, offering surgical interventions to patients from all over the world.

About me​

I graduated from the University of Pharmacy and Medicine, in Romania in 2003, followed by 6 years of residency in one of the busiest public hospitals in Romania. I’ve also trained in France, in digestive and general surgery for 3 years at the Hôpital Saint Charles, Saint-Die des Vosges. 

My two major areas of interest are weight loss surgery and hernias surgery. During my 17 years plus as a general surgeon I’ve operated hundreds of cases of hernias. Amongst the cases that I’ve operated for weight loss are patients with extreme obesity, body weight over 200kg (31 stones). 

I am also a member of the Romanian Metabolic and Bariatric Society and the  International Federation for Obesity Surgery.  I work with a multidisciplinary team and always, always with the best interest of patients. Being a doctor for me is a vocation. I make sure every day to give my best in the surgical room. Attention to details, empathy, and constantly being there for all my patients are some of my strengths.

Moreover, weight loss surgery can also be done for people who are overweight and suffers from various health issues such as sleep apnea or diabetes type 2. Studies have shown that a lot of the health issues caused by a high BMI can be treated effectively with weight loss surgery. 

Laparoscopic general surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique  knows as keyhole surgery as well used in the abdominal and pelvic areas. Laparoscopy allows allows a surgeon to operate the inside of the abdomen and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin.  In general surgery, laparoscopy can be used to operate hernias, colorectal cancers, spleen, gallbladder, appendix and many more organs, offering patients less pain and great results.

Travelling

The date of travelling will be given to you by Dr Tuca and will likely be 2-3 days prior to surgery date to allow for pre-op tests to be done. 

 

Surgery 

Based on the schedule for that day, your surgery will take place either in the morning or in the afternoon.
