Gastric Bypass Promotes Weight Loss In Two Ways
Restriction: The upper portion of the stomach is separated from the lower portion. The upper portion is then connected to a limb of the small intestine, called the “Rouxlimb.” The new stomach pouch restricts the amount of food intake, making you feel full after eating only a small quantity of food.
Mal-Absorbtion: Once the smaller pouch is created, the digestive system is rerouted to bypass the larger part of the stomach and part of the small intestine. The result of the bypass is absorbortion of fewer calories and nutrients from the food intake (mal-absorption).
